June 4, 2018

Sixteen:Fifteen is pleased to introduce Jerry Wiles with the International Orality Network! Jerry is our guest on Sixteen:Fifteen’s upcoming webinar on July 11th, Orality & Missions – Missions Method and Strategies for Reaching a World That Communicates by a Spoken Word.

Hello Jerry, please tell us a little about yourself and your role/involvement with International Orality Network.
Hi, my name is Jerry Wiles and I am the North American Regional Director of the International Orality Network, and President Emeritus of Living Water International. I became involved with Orality in the 1980s through the influence of Herbert Klem’s book, Oral Communication of the Scripture. He has more than 35 years of experience in ministry and international mission work. He is an author and radio program producer and has been a frequent guest on radio and television talk shows and traveled extensively as a public speaker. I am an Air Force veteran, a former pastor and university administrator. My wife Sheila and I have two grown children and seven grandchildren.

What is the mission and the goals of the International Orality Network?
The International Orality Network (ION) is an affiliation of agencies and organizations working together with the common goal of making God’s Word available to oral communicators in culturally appropriate ways that enable church planting and disciple making movements everywhere.

ION is part of the Lausanne Movement and grew out of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelism in 2004 and has since grown to be a global network of over 2,000 organizations.

Please share one of your favorite testimonials about your work with the International Orality Network.
One pastor in a Southern African country attended one of LWI’s Orality Training for Trainers (OT4T) events. He returned to the community where serves and trained 30 other pastors. A few months later, we received reports and testimonies of how the Orality training and methods had accelerated the churches growth and reproducing church planting in the region.

How can local churches get involved with the International Orality Network, and what are the investment/participation opportunities?
There are numerous ways for churches to get involved. ION member organizations have a variety of specialties and models of training and resources. The best first step for churches to get involved would be to attend one of ION’s conferences, consultations or forums. Some of those, along with a number of articles, journals and case studies, are posted on the website – www.orality.net.
